Honourable Nurses

On the occasion of 63 Republic Day of India, our nation has announced many awards.  Along with them Kerala’s two nurses also awarded with Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Pathak Award (highest civilian bravery award).  Before that the Govt. of India has given the National Florence Nightingale Nurses Awards to them.  They are Miss Remya Rajappan and Miss Vineetha P K.

But the tragedy is they were no more in this world to get their awards.  Do you think, what happened to them? Yes, they were working as staff nurse of AMRI Hospitals, Dhakuria, Kolkatta. In the year 2011 December 9th there was happened a fire accident in the hospital.  In that event the nurses with out think of their life, they saved nine patients from the accident.  But they couldn’t save themselves.  Nearly 90 people died in that fire accident. Oh! It is horrible.

Then what happened to their family?
Miss. Remya Rajappan D/o. Mr. Rajappan and Mrs.Usha of Mecharil House at Uzhavoor and Miss. Vinitha P K D/o. Mr.Kunjumon and Mrs. Mary of Pulickal House at Kothanallur from Kottayam district of Kerala.  They were from poor family.  They studied with the help of educational loan from State Bank of Travancore.  For their sacrifice, the Bank has been honoured by waiving the loan.

I think it is not an incident; it is an inspiration for others to know their duties and responsibilities.  So let us bow our head for their sacrifice.

You are right; they led a path to others to be selfless and scarify mind to save other lives. I remember the tragedy happened at the hospital and I wish such incidents never repeated. Hats off to our humble yet honorable nurses... hope they remembered forever.

Great story.... I love reading stories which talk about adults who sacrifice their own lives in order to save someone else. Those nurses gave their lives for someone else. Glad that their families are being helped...

Hugs,
Betsy
