Vizhinjam Harbour

In-connected with our kovalam visit...

Next our aim was to Vizhinjam (Malayalam: വിഴിഞ്ഞം ).  Now the time is about 1pm. Since it was a sunny day, we were very thirsty.  So we approached a small bakery and had soft drinks and snacks and enquired the shopkeeper about Vizhinjam Harbour. Again we drove back to Kovalam Junction, and turn right towards Vizhinjam.  After completing 3km (16km from Trivandrum city), we reached Vizhinjam KSRTC bus depot junction and asked a shopkeeper about the way to Vizhinjam Fishing Harbour.  He directed us to a small road which is just opposite of KSRTC bus depot.

On the way of harbour we could see the small fishing materials shops on both the sides.  When traveled less than one kilometer, we reached the harbour.

If we describe about the harbour, it is a natural harbour. Also the International ship route is close to the harbour. Because of these reasons Govt. has planed the International Transshipment Terminal here.

In the harbour we saw many fishing boats. Near by the harbour itself we could see a church and a mosque. Here we have to think about the unity of religion.

There was a Tidal Power Station. But it is not functioning time being. Such a way we spent few times at Vizhinjam harbour.

Next our journey was to Vizhinjam Lighthouse. For that we came back to Vizhinjam junction and followed way of Trivandrum. After passing few distance, turned left from the main road. Like that we reached to Lighthouse. Since it was afternoon, we didn’t get permission to go inside the Lighthouse. Actually the time allotted for the public visiting is 4pm. This lighthouse can be seen from Kovalam Beach also.

Near by the lighthouse there is a beach, we spent few time there also.  We felt it is a beautiful calm and pleasant place.  It is a very good place to visit.  If you wish to visit this place, I wish a good luck.
